Meet the Team
Malcolm Hurlston is a social entrepreneur who conceived the trade union bank Unity in 1984 and then brought employee share ownership plans to Europe, with the bank’s managing director, Lord Thomas of Macclesfield.
He founded the Esop Centre in 1986 since when it has been an influential members’ organisation with a world remit, holding annual events in Davos, Cannes and The Channel Islands.
He chairs the non-profit Registry Trust, which runs the Register of Judgments, Orders and Fines for the UK Ministry of Justice, and collects judgment information from other jurisdictions in the British Isles and Ireland.
He founded the leading debt charity in the UK, Foundation for Credit Counselling, in 1993 and was chairman until 2010. Its staff of 650 have helped over a million people.
He is working on a number of new third sector projects. Additionally he chairs the education charity, Credit Action; ; European Centre for Employee Ownership; is a member of the advisory board of the Legal Services Complaints Commissioner and visiting professor at Westminster Business School.
Fred Hackworth is editor of newspad and International Director of the World Centre, organising the Centre’s international conferences in Cannes and Davos.
He was previously London and city editor of the Manchester Evening News.

Linda Wilbert LL.M. is company secretary and head of finance.
She read English and psychology at the University of Cape Town and received her masters in law from University College London.

David Poole is the UK director of the Employee Share Ownership Centre.
He has previously worked in public sector research, writing and recruitment for Guardian News and Media and Reed Personnel Services. David holds a BA from Saint Edmund Hall, Oxford in Russian and an MA from the School of Oriental and African Studies in Chinese Studies.

Tena Prelec is in charge online communications and marketing.
She has advocacy and journalistic experience, having previously worked as network director in the Brussels headquarters of the organisation AEGEE-Europe, as correspondent for the European Youth Forum and at the British organisation Index on Censorhsip. Tena holds a BA in Translation and Interpreting from the University of Trieste and an MA in East European Studies from University College London. She is fluent in a number of European languages.
